Catheters

Catheters are used for draining CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) from the ventricles into an appropriate cavity within the body. All Catheters manufactured by Christoph Miethke GmbH & Co. KG, have an internal diameter of 1.2 mm and an external diameter of 2.5 mm. All CATHETERS are made of silicone with 9-20 % barium sulphate. This guarantees easy identification on X-ray images. Catheter are MR Safe, in combination with a deflector or prechamber MR Conditional.

Ventricular Catheter

Use for precise placement of the Ventricular Catheter, markings are provided 3, 5, 7, 10 and 13 mm from the catheter tip.

While inserting the Ventricular Catheter, the introducing stylet prevents the catheter tip from bending. Boreholes line the Ventricular Catheter between 3 and 14mm from the tip. This helps to direct flow into catheter and prevents drainage of CSF into the brain, in the case where the ventricles are slit-like (narrowed) due to overdrainage.

THOMALE CATHETER

The THOMALE CATHETER is a ventricular catheter with 6 boreholes on the catheter tip. It is intended for implantation in instances where the patient has narrowed ventricles.

Peritoneal Catheter

There are two versions of the Peritoneal Catheter available:

silicone with 9-20 % barium sulphate
silicone with integrated barium stripe

The barium stripe within the Peritoneal Catheter is fully covered by silicone. This ensures that the stripe is not exposed to either the inner or outer surface of the catheter.
