• Sophisticated and clear design for more safety, versatility and user comfort

  • Connectors are used as a link between the elements of a shunt system (e.g. catheters and valves). All connectors manufactured by Christoph Miethke GmbH & Co. KG are constructed of titanium and are biocompatible. Most commonly the internal diameter of the Titanium Connectors is 0.9 mm and the external diameter 1.9 mm.
  • Catheters are used for draining CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) from the ventricles into an appropriate cavity within the body. All Catheters manufactured by Christoph Miethke GmbH & Co. KG, have an internal diameter of 1.2 mm and an external diameter of 2.5 mm. All CATHETERS are made of silicone with 9-20 % barium sulphate. This guarantees easy identification on X-ray images. Catheter are MR Safe, in combination with a deflector or prechamber MR Conditional.
  • Some patients treated with a shunt system face the risk of valve blockage due to the presence of blood in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). A high protein level or tumor cells in the CSF can also lead to valve blockage. These issues were given particular consideration in the development of the DUALSWITCH-VALVE. The robust titanium casing consists of two parallel chambers that present a very large surface area to the CSF. A large area also allows a higher force, which is provided by a relatively stiff spring, making the valve mechanism effectively immune against any of the problems associated with proteins, blood or tumor cells.
  • The miniNAV was developed as a more compact valve that demonstrates improved performance in terms of obstruction-related problems and resistance against subcutaneous pressure. The depiction below shows a schematic cross section of the miniNAV. The miniNAV consists of a robust titanium casing (1) whose proximal end contains a ball-cone valve. A spiral spring (2) maintains the opening pressure of the ball-cone valve and the sapphire ball (3) ensures precise closure of the valve. The inlet port (4) and the outlet port (5) are also constructed of titanium.
  • The paediGAV is the world's first gravitational valve for the treatment of hydrocephalus in children. The valve is made of titanium, a material that guarantees outstanding precision, reliability and biocompatibility. The paediGAV is 3 Tesla MRI-conditional and is unaffected by subcutaneous pressure.
